President's report Season 2010 - 2011

Members of Coffs Harbour Swim Club, Ladies and Gentlemen.

It is with great pleasure I submit my President's report for season 2010 - 2011.

Our club is in the start of a rebuilding phase with a lot of members leaving over the past few season for various reasons, but with the old adage "Build it and they will come", and enormous thanks to Coffs Hatbour City Council, State and Federal Governments and Mrs. Barbara Hogbin, we have a magnificient swim complex which will service the people of Coffs Harbour and surrounding districts for many years to come.

Hopefully Coffs Harbour Swim Club will also benefit through new members. Speaking of which we desperately need more committee members to help run the Club. It's a great club but cannot survive withour a committee or executive.

To the new members who joined the swimming scene for the first time, I hope you have enjoyed your first season and look forward to a long friendship with the club for many years. This year we registered 65 swimming members and 9 non swimming members.

Congratulations to Joshua Chapman on winning gold at the recent NSW State Championships. All the hard training and early mornings is paying off.

Our club is intending holding a winter club night. At this stage and after analysing your survey on when and how often, your Executive has agreed that we will hold club nights every 3rd Friday night at the indoor 25m pool. At the moment we are waiting for Coffs Harbour City Council to approve these dates. I will keep you up to date via email over the next few weeks.

During this season, our district (Mid North Coast) was forced to amalgamate with Far North Coast district (a merge directed by Swimming NSW). For those members who compete outside our Friday night club nights our area now extends from Tea Gardens in the South to Twin Towns at Tweed Heads in the north. It is a very large district and driving area however on a positive note it should increase the level of competition for all concerned. On a big plus note, the new district has agreed to hold the sumer championships at our pool over a two day weekend in November. This is great news for our club and an opportunity to increase our bank account through catering for this period, with food and drinks for the officials and a BBQ running for the spectators and swimmers. Having said that I will be inviting all members and parents to help out over this weekend. Stay tuned for more information.

Finally I wish to acknowledge the following people and businesses on your behalf and thank them very much for their contribution to your club during the season.

Cold Rock Ice Cream, MacDonalds, Video Ezy, Birch Carol and Coyle, Claytons Australia, Sunshine Screen Prints, Bunnings and Ella Bache.

Your Executive of Maria Rosewood (Secretary), Tracey Willis (Treasurer), Pam McLauchlan (Point Score) and Heather Pallet (Publicity).

Your B.B.Q chefs Gavin Willis, Michael Hicks and Mark Austin with support from Janet Austin and her mum .

Your starter Sean Harrington.

Your newsletter scribe David Gentle.

Your coach Dean.

Pool management and staff led by Iian and Sue.

Coffs Harbour City Council.

And last but most important. You, the parents and friends who make up the voluntary labour of timekeeping each week. Without you, like all sporting clubs, we cannot exist to allow the kids to enjoy their activities.

Yours in Swimming.

Alan Newman

Club President.
